Ambassador of Belarus to Egypt S.Terentiev spoke at the 27th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC

17.11.2022

On November 15, 2022 as part of the resumed High-Level Segment of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Sergey Terentiev, made a national statement.

Being the head of the delegation from our country, the Ambassador of Belarus informed about the measures taken by the Republic of Belarus to implement the provisions of the Paris Agreement and national priorities in the field of adaptation to climate change in the near future.

S.Terentiev drew the attention of the participants of the event to the fact that man-made measures, for example, limiting the access of fertilizers and food from Belarus to world markets, are also joining the extreme natural phenomena that negatively affect the economies of countries, which further exacerbates the global food crisis.

The speech noted that the sanctions policy of the collective West not only negatively affects the economic development of the Republic of Belarus, but also hinders the fulfillment of international obligations in the field of climate.

The representative of the Republic of Belarus stressed that any unilateral measures that hinder the economic development of countries undermine international efforts to fulfill obligations under the Paris Agreement and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

He emphasized that the end result of common international action should be the mitigation of the effects of climate change to ensure the environmental well-being and security of each country and each person, and not the geopolitical ambitions of individual states.
