Minister Sergei Popkov and Ambassador of Belarus Sergei Rachkov met with the Prime Minister of Egypt Mr. Sherif Ismail

On April 2 – 4, 2018, with the assistance of the Embassy of Belarus in Egypt, the Minister of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus Mr. Sergei Popkov visited Egypt.

The rector of the Belarusian State Academy of Communications Prof. Andrei Zenevich took part in the visit.

During the visit Minister Sergei Popkov held talks with the Minister of Communications and Information Technologies of Egypt Eng. Yasser el Kady, which were attended by the representatives of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency, Agency for the Development of Industry and Information Technologies, Egyptian National Computer Emergency Response Team, National Telecommunications Institute, and Administration of the Smart Village of Egypt.

The parties discussed the issues of building a modern digital economy based on the achievements of the Republic of Belarus, ways to expand cooperation in the field of cybersecurity, innovation and entrepreneurship, exchange of experience in the creation of smart villages, research and development in the field of information technology, as well as training of personnel in information and communications technology (ICT) in the framework of master's programs and short-term courses on the basis of the Belarusian State Academy of Communications.

The delegation visited the Smart Village of Egypt, and the Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage of Egypt.

Minister Sergei Popkov met with the Prime Minister of Egypt Mr. Sherif Ismailthe and discussed the perspective directions of the Belarusian-Egyptian cooperation in the field of communication and information technologies. An agreement was reached to send a delegation of Egyptian ICT specialists to participate in the International Forum on Information and Telecommunication Technologies “TIBO-2018” in Minsk.

In the presence of the Prime Minister of Egypt the parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of the Arab Republic of Egypt on cooperation in the field of communications and information technologies.

The Belarusian delegation took part in the panel discussion “Belarus-Egypt: prospects and opportunities for cooperation in the IT field” organized by the Egyptian Business Council for International Cooperation, which was attended by representatives of more than 40 major companies and organizations of Egypt interested in cooperation with the Republic of Belarus in the field of ICT.

Within the framework of the panel discussion the Belarusian Minister highlighted the main directions of ICT development in the Republic of Belarus. Also discussed issues of joint development and production of equipment in the field of ICT, outsourcing of computer services, cooperation in the construction of telecommunications networks, contract technology transfer, exchange of experience in the field of digitalization.

The presentation of the Belarusian Academy of Communications capabilities was delivered, including the “smart house” technology and the possibilities of carrying out scientific research in the field of communications.

Within the framework of the visit, an Agreement was signed between the Belarusian State Academy of Communications and the National Telecommunications Institute of Egypt on cooperation in the field of education and science.
