Humanitarian cooperation

Humanitarian cooperation with Egypt is developing mainly in the field of education and science, culture, sports and tourism.

In January 2016 the delegation of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus headed by the First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences Dr. Sergei Chizhik visited Egypt.

In May 2017 a delegation of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology of Egypt headed by its Chairman Dr. Mahmoud Sakr, visited Belarus. The Academies of Sciences of the two countries are implementing 4 joint research projects. Belarusian National Technical University, Belarusian State University, Minsk State Linguistic University and Belarusian-Russian University concluded cooperation agreements with Egyptian Universities.

In February 2020, a delegation of the Minister of Education of the Republic of Belarus and rectors of the Belarusian State University, the Belarusian National Technical University, the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioеlectronics visited Egypt. A meeting with the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Egypt was held. A round table meeting with the leadership of Egyptian universities on issues of intercollegiate interaction was organized.

During 1991-2020 years more than 150 Egyptian specialists and 29 PhD graduated from Belarusian universities.

In April 2019, the first courses in the field of furniture design and production for Egyptian specialists were held in Cairo with the participation of the Belarusian State Technological University instructors.

In October 2004 the National Library of Belarus and the Alexandria Library concluded an agreement on cooperation in the field of science and information.

Belarus held Days of Egyptian Culture in 2005.

Days of Belarusian Culture in Egypt were held in 2007 and 2008.

In 2015 Belarus participated in the Cairo International Festival of Animated Film for the first time. In 2016, the animated film of the National Film Studio «Belarusfilm» «Spring in Autumn» (director and scriptwriter Tatiana Kublitskaya) was honored with the award for the best screenplay at the festival.

In 2017 Egypt was first presented at the international festival «Slavic Bazaar in Vitebsk».

In July 2018 the representative of Egypt for the first time took part in a competition of young performers in the framework of the Slavic Bazaar festival.

As part of the development of sports cooperation in February 2018 a friendly football match of the youth team of the Minsk region «Isloch» with the youth team of South Sinai took place at the stadium of the Youth Olympic Village in Sharm El-Sheikh.

In January 2019 a joint training camp for the boxing youth teams of Belarus and Egypt was organized in Cairo. In July 2019, the Belarusian-Egyptian week of friendship and sports was held in Minsk. During this event Egypt boxing and wrestling teams visited Belarus to conduct training camps and participate in competitions.

Belarus and Egypt are developing relations in the field of tourism.

In July 2020, an official Egyptian delegation headed by the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities of Egypt H. al-Anani paid a visit to Belarus. Egypt is one of the leading destinations for the tourist flow from Belarus.

In March 2021, the first Belarusian-Egyptian tourism forum was held in Cairo and Sharm el-Sheikh. Within the framework of the forum, the Belarusian delegation held negotiations with the leadership of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Civil Aviation Agency of the Arab Republic of Egypt as well as meetings in the B2B format with representatives of the Egyptian tourism industry from various regions of the country.
