Belarus – Algeria

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria were established on October 24, 1995.

Belarusian-Algerian cooperation in 2025 was characterized by significant political intensification. The President of the Republic of Belarus and the Minister of Foreign Affairs visited Algeria.

As part of the high-level visit, the heads of the Belarusian ministries of industry, health, agriculture and food, antimonopoly regulation and trade, education, the State Authority For Military Industry, and the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry also visited Algeria.

Before 2025, meetings of the heads of state were held in September 2000 during the UN Millennium Summit in New York and in September 2006 during the Non-Aligned Movement Summit in Havana.

From August 5 to 7, 2026, Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, paid an official visit to the Republic of Belarus.

A mechanism for political consultations is in place: the first round was held in April 2015 in Algiers. A second round of political consultations in Minsk is under consideration.

A working group on cooperation with the Parliament of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria has been formed within the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus. A similar group was established in Algeria on October 31, 2024.

From September 10 to 13, 2025, a visit by an Algerian parliamentary delegation from the friendship group was organized to Minsk. A return visit by the Belarusian delegation to Algeria took place in January 2026.

In May 2026, Ibrahim Bougali, the Head of the National People’s Assembly of the Parliament of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, visited Belarus.

The legal framework for bilateral relations includes more than 10 international treaties, including agreements on visa waiver for holders of diplomatic and service passports, on the establishment of a joint commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation, on military-technical cooperation, on cooperation in animal health, and in scientific research, technological development, and innovation.
