On the Single Voting Day in the Republic of Belarus

On February 25, 2024 Belarus held parliamentary and local elections.

Belarusians voted to elect 12,514 deputies of local councils and 110 members of the House of Representatives (parliament's lower house) for a period of five years.

As many as 263 candidates applied for deputy seats in the lower house and 18,800 for seats in local councils.

All political parties registered in the country nominated their candidates.

The total voter turnout in the Belarusian parliamentary and local elections on a single voting day reached 72.98% by the time of polling stations closing.

The election campaign was monitored by 45,505 national observers. In addition, the Central Commission accredited 294 international observers. Observer missions from the CIS, SCO, representatives of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia, heads and representatives of election bodies of foreign countries, as well as experts from European and other countries, including Italy, Germany, Lithuania, Poland, France, Sweden, Switzerland, Serbia, Bulgaria.

The elections took place in a calm atmosphere. National and international observers noted the free and democratic nature of the election campaign in Belarus.

The first session of the newly elected House of Representatives has been scheduled for 22 March. The decision was made at a meeting of the Belarusian Central Election Commission on 1 March.
