Belarus’s potential in the field of education lies in a combination of accessibility, high quality, international integration and an innovative approach, making it an attractive destination for international students and partners.
There are 46 higher education institutions in the Republic of Belarus, where more than 37,000 international students (as of 1 January 2026) from 119 countries are studying at all levels of education. More than 30 higher education institutions offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in English.
Types of higher education:
• general higher education within the framework of a bachelor’s degree programme, aimed at training specialists and awarding the qualification of ‘Bachelor’ (4 years);
• advanced higher education through master’s degree programmes, aimed at training specialists and awarding the degree of ‘Master’ (1–2 years);
• specialised higher education under a continuous higher education programme, aimed at training specialists and awarding the qualification and degree of ‘Master’ (5–6 years).
Educational institutions in Belarus also offer preparatory courses lasting 7 to 9 months and language courses lasting 1 to 10 months.
The Republic of Belarus is a party to 16 bilateral and multilateral intergovernmental agreements on the mutual recognition of educational documents.
Key tools for ensuring high-quality education include the active integration of digital technologies and equipment into the educational process, the modernization of educational programs, and the updating of curricula with an emphasis on practical application. Belarusian universities are equipped with modern laboratories, research centers, and specialized platforms for conducting online classes, testing, and communication between students and faculty. In particular, education at medical universities—which are located in Minsk, Vitebsk, Gomel, and Grodno—features practical training starting in the first year, high-tech simulation labs, and digital resources that allow students to hone their knowledge and skills in conditions as close to reality as possible, even before they encounter patients.
In total, the Republic of Belarus offers higher education in 10 fields, including education, healthcare, management and law, information and communication technologies, agriculture and forestry, veterinary medicine, and engineering. Bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in Russian and English are offered in more than 500 specializations.
At the higher education level, new promising specializations in high demand by the economy are being introduced quite actively. In recent years, the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics has introduced new specializations in “digital marketing,” “electronic engineering,” and “cyber-physical systems”; at Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov, “Cybersecurity”; at the Belarusian State Technological University, “Design, Construction, and Operation of Unmanned Systems”; and at the Belarusian State University of Foreign Languages, “Digital Linguistics.”
Belarusian higher education institutions offer a simple and straightforward admissions process, various programs for studying Russian and Belarusian, language courses, summer schools, and distance learning.
Great attention is paid to the adaptation and psychological support of international students, which begins the moment they arrive in Belarus. International students learn about the history and culture of Belarus, participate in cultural events reflecting the national traditions and culture of their own countries, as well as in numerous creative and sports events. In Belarus, all international students are provided with housing in dormitories.
