Belarus — League of Arab States Cooperation

In May 2007, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, enabling Belarus to develop cooperation with the LAS and its specialized organizations.

Belarus's contacts with the LAS are maintained through the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Belarus to the League. The Ambassador of Belarus to Egypt serves as the Permanent Representative to the LAS.

Belarus's cooperation with the LAS focuses on maintaining political dialogue to coordinate the positions of Belarus and Arab countries on pressing issues on the regional (Middle East) agenda, as well as interaction with specialized institutions and organizations within the LAS, primarily in the agricultural, educational, scientific and technical fields, and others.

The Permanent Mission attends regular sessions of the LAS Council at the level of foreign ministers of member states (held twice a year at the LAS headquarters in Cairo). Meetings with the LAS leadership are held regularly.

Belarus regularly interacts with the Arab League within the framework of international organizations, primarily the UN, to provide mutual support for promoted international initiatives.

During meetings between the Deputy Foreign Ministers of the Republic of Belarus and the Deputy Secretaries-General of the Arab League in September 2021 and February 2024 at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, an agreement was reached to hold regular political consultations between the Belarusian Foreign Ministry and the Arab League Secretariat to coordinate and coordinate positions on pressing issues on the global and regional agenda.

Belarus is also developing cooperation with the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) of the Arab League, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, the Arab Parliament and other organizations.
