Political cooperation
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Sultanate of Oman were established on July 23, 1992.
In October 2019, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Egypt Sergei Terentiev was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Sultanate of Oman non-resident.
The Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Russian Federation, Hamood bin Salim bin Abdullah Altowaiya, was appointed Ambassador to the Republic of Belarus non-resident.
From 2007 to January 2022, Valery Varanko was Honorary Consul of the Sultanate of Oman to Belarus. In 2021, Abdullah Al Harthy was appointed Honorary Consul of Belarus in Oman.
In April 2007, President of the Republic of Belarus paid an official visit to the Sultanate of Oman.
Oman was visited by Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus (2010), Assistant to the President of Belarus for National Security (2010), Minister of Foreign Affairs (2004 and 2017), Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee (2008), Minister of Interior (2010), Minister of Commerce (2016), Minister of Education (2016), Minister of Culture (2018 and 2020).
Recently, Belarus was visited by the Chairman of the State Council (Parliament) of Oman, Minister of National Economy, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, Minister of Defense, State Minister and Governor of Muscat, Secretary General of the Research Council, Minister of Higher Education, Minister of Justice, Chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Six rounds of Belarusian-Omani political consultations were held at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers (2008, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2018 and 2019). Omani parliamentary delegations visited Belarus in 2015 and 2023.
Inter-parliamentary interaction is developing. The Parliaments of Belarus and Oman signed a memorandum of understanding, work is ongoing between cooperation groups. Omani parliamentary group visited Belarus in 2015.
The legal framework for cooperation is being formed. The Sides signed agreements on trade and economic cooperation, mutual protection of investments, avoidance of double taxation, mutual cancellation of visas for holders of diplomatic, special and official passports; memoranda of understanding between the ministries of foreign affairs, justice, education, culture, chambers of commerce and industry, as well as an agreement on establishing friendly relations between Minsk and Muscat.
In July 2023, Air Services Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the Sultanate of Oman was signed.
